Spotlight Team

The Southeast Showcase is shining a light on quality programs throughout the Southeast.  Many Teams and Organizations are all trying to recruit players to play on their teams, but only a select few have the athletes interests at the top of their priority list.  Many times, teams simply call players because they have been recognized as quality players, only trying to build their own brand...whereas we feel that the quality programs are the ones that develop and prepare players for the next level....with the #1 goal being to help the players!

Each month, the Southeast Showcase will shine a light on those quality programs that are doing things right!  If you or your athletes ever have questions about where to play, whom to play for, etc....reach out to us at office@southeastshowcaseseries.com.  We have been serving athletes since 1998 and have helped players of all ability levels....including some that have progressed all the way to MLB!

February 2017...Spotlight Team of the Month......Empire Baseball

So many young players talk about wanting to play at the next level, but how hard are they willing to work in order to get there?  That is the question that each player must answer throughout their career. Our Spotlight Team of the month is Empire Baseball. As an organization, Empire exhibits the dedication it takes to reach that next level.  Empire Baseball is more than just a team, it is an Organization in North Louisiana run by Todd Self.  He is a living example of wanting it, working for it, and obtaining it.  Very few people know about Todd’s story, therefore we will tell it in his honor. After graduating from High School, Todd was a walk on at Louisiana College.  What this means, is that 12 Louisiana Division 1 programs did not have interest in Todd at that time. Unlike many young players, Todd had more than just a desire in his heart to be great, he had a dream.  His dream had a plan and Todd worked towards his dream by adapting to a new work ethic. One that would take him to places he had never imagined.  Over the next few years, Todd improved significantly and transferred to UL Monroe.  But he was not done there!  In 2000, Todd was the 15th Round Draft choice of the Houston Astros.  But again, he was not done! His incredible work ethic propelled him to continue to grind and on May 12, 2005 Todd made his Major League Debut.

Even today as the leader of Empire, Todd portrays a strong work ethic that he applies when assisting his players learn what it takes to advance to the next level. Todd has a group of dedicated coaches on his team that share that same ideology. Each coach projects a high-energy attitude along with a strong teaching dynamic. The coaching staff of Empire Baseball prepare their players by enforcing strong character values that are obtained through hard work and dedication.

Coach Matt Jackson is another positive role model for Empire Baseball Players.  Matt took an entirely different pathway in his career than that of Todd.  Matt played at both Benton and Haughton High School and originally signed at LSU.  But LSU was only the 1st stop for Matt.  After one season, Matt transferred to Chipola and then on to South Alabama prior to being drafted by San Diego.  After several years with the Padres (A - AAA) and a few years in Independent Baseball, Matt now brings a wealth of experience to all of the young players he is around.
